The South Atlantic Bight includes the offshore waters between North Carolina and Florida. This highly populated area (over 15 million people) is known for very diverse ecosystems, from coral reefs to saltmarshes. These systems provide the foundation for thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic impacts generated every year by the fishing, tourism, shipping, energy, and defense industries.
