Project Objectives
- Display the current carbon stocks of existing and former wetlands within the Yaquina Estuary in an interactive online map. Existing wetlands refer to unvegetated tidal flats, seagrass meadows, emergent wetlands, scrub-shrub wetlands, and forested tidal wetlands (aka tidal swamps or Sitka spruce wetlands). This tool was developed in partnership with Sea & Shore Solutions and Silvestrum Climate Associates. The data is built upon previous work done in collaboration with the Pew Charitable Trust in the creation of a coastal wetland greenhouse gas inventory for Oregon.
- Display the potential carbon stocks of possible restoration sites in the Yaquina Estuary after 15, 30 and 50 years in an interactive online map. Carbon sequestration is related to the potential wetland type, which is determined by existing tidal elevations (below mean tide level [MTL], MTL to mean higher high water [MHHW], at or above MHHW).
