Destructive fishing: An expert-driven definition and exploration of this quasi-concept
A consensus definition of “destructive fishing” identifies practices causing irreversible habitat damage, unsafe declines in species, and livelihood harm. Broad stakeholder agreement supports this framework, aiding global fisheries policy, sustainability goals, and implementation of FAO guidelines to curb harmful practices.
