Summary

Tourism is a major economic driver in New Jersey, yet little data has historically existed on visitors to Cumberland County’s Delaware Bayshore communities. To address this gap, The Nature Conservancy in New Jersey conducted a visitor survey between spring and fall 2015, collecting 250 responses from non-resident visitors across multiple survey locations and online platforms.

Survey results indicate that visitors were highly satisfied with their experience and expressed strong intent to return. Many respondents spent money at local restaurants, and birding and wildlife viewing emerged as leading activities of interest. Visitors also showed nearly equal interest in ecotourism and historic or cultural attractions, and respondents traveled from across New Jersey and nearly a dozen other states.

This report summarizes survey findings and provides recommendations for applying the results to existing tourism and economic development strategies. The findings are intended to inform regional planning efforts and support sustainable tourism initiatives that align with local conservation and community goals in Cumberland County’s Delaware Bayshore.
