Overview
To protect water for nature, we first need to understand current flow conditions in our rivers, and how that flow is altered from natural conditions. Under the California Environmental Flows Framework (https://ceff.ucdavis.edu/), we focus on five components of the annual hydrograph to understand stream function and condition. The Functional Flows Calculator quantifies these functional flows for any river. It includes tools for visualizing, downloading, and exploring California's streamflow patterns. More general users may also benefit from the interactive map of all USGS and CDEC stream gages in the state. The calculator builds on and integrates prior work by the California Environmental Flows Framework technical team. The calculator was built by The Nature Conservancy and Foundry Spatial with funding from the California Wildlife Conservation Board under Proposition 1.
