Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems
Over 10% of Nevada's landscape is covered with groundwater-dependent ecosystems (GDEs) that depend on access to groundwater, including wetlands, meadows, phreatophytic communities, and riparian zones. Nevada's surface waters also depend on groundwater, including over 25,000 springs, and most of its rivers and lakes. These ecosystems are important for wildlife and for humans.
