Preparing for the Worst: Enhancing Seedling Traits to Reduce Transplant Shock in Semi-Arid Regions
Semi‑arid regions are expanding, increasing seedling transplant stress. Five South Texas species were tested under drought, elevated CO₂, and abscisic acid. Responses varied, and survival didn’t improve due to herbivory and wet conditions. Antitranspirants reduced transpiration and may help reduce drought shock but need wider testing.
