Abstract

The Nature Conservancy partnered with USDA Forest Service Region 3 to provide scientific data and ecological analyses for Arizona and New Mexico National Forests, supporting Forest Plan revisions. A key outcome is the R3 Species Database, which consolidates conservation status information across taxonomic groups using NatureServe standards. This comprehensive tool covers aquatic and terrestrial vertebrates and includes many plants and invertebrates of management concern. It enables consistent, region-wide analyses for forest planning, helping identify species of concern, compare biodiversity across forests, and guide management decisions at forest, subregional, and regional scales. The database improves accessibility and consistency of data previously scattered across multiple sources, serving as a foundation for future species-related research and planning efforts.
