The Gateway is for the conservation practitioner, scientist and decision-maker. Here we share the best and most up-to-date information we use to inform our work at The Nature Conservancy.

Oregon has 9.4 million acres of fire-dependent, public forest land in need of restoration and most National Forest and Bureau of Land Management districts have the capacity to treat only about 20,000 acres a year per forest or district. As a result, agency planners must choose restoration areas carefully to maximize their impact. In addition, community members often object to projects proposed for certain areas, even when forest health clearly indicates a need for restoration. A collaborative process addressed both of these issues. More info: Amy Waltz
