LANDFIRE tools and data can be used in a myriad of ways, each of which has a learning curve, just as all datasets and tools do. The goal of the support materials posted here is to help end users apply LANDFIRE products to real world land management and conservation problems. Check out the in-depth guides (below), and use the step-by-step tutorials to get the most out of these datasets.
HOW TO USE LANDFIRE Guides -- HUGs
Adapting LANDFIRE Vegetation Dynamics Models - This manual helps users adapt LANDFIRE Vegetation Dynamics Models for use in modeling current and future landscapes. Once adapted, these models may be useful in predicting future vegetation conditions, exploring the impacts of potential environmental changes and comparing the results of different management options. The manual describes the use of the models in the VDDT software program. A new version, describing the use of the models in the Path Landscape Model is forthcoming.
Reviewing & Modifying LANDFIRE Spatial Products - The purpose of this guide is to provide an introduction to concepts, processes and tools that will allow users to review LANDFIRE spatial products and alter those products as needed for local application.
Reviewing & Modifying LANDFIRE Vegetation Dynamics Models - This guide provides an introduction to concepts, processes and tools that will allow users to review the vegetation models and accompanying descriptions and then alter them as needed for local application.

NOTE: Additional resources on the LANDFIRE Gateway site that can be helpful are in the five sub-sections of the Library, on the Applications and Case Studies pages, and in the Spatial Data section.
All You Need to Know About LANDFIRE - PowerPoint and audio presentation given via Webinar to the Southern Rockies Fire Science Network. SRFSN's aim is to improve communications between scientists and those who use and benefit from science, and to increase the application of fire science on the ground. Excellent primer and examples from on-the-ground fire and non-fire applications.
Apex Resource Management Services supports the application of the vegetation dynamics modeling software programs Path and VDDT.
Biophysical Settings (BpS) Model Search Spreadsheet is designed to help potential users of LANDFIRE National vegetation data identify BpS models relevant to their areas of interest.
Finding Basic Information about Specific Ecosystem Types Five-step primer.
Frequently Asked Questions about LANDFIRE and Rapid Assessment Reference Condition Modeling is a helpful primer, though primarily focused on the first five years of the LANDFIRE Project.
Guidebook on LANDFIRE fuels data acquisition, critique, modification, maintenance, and model calibration provides guidance on ACE as well as on assembling a geospatial fuels team, model calibration, and maintaining geospatial data and documentation

LANDFIRE Fire Regime Condition Class Mapping Tool Allows users to find out how current vegetation is different from reference (historic) vegetation. (FRCC is also called Vegetation Condition Class, or VCC)
LANDFIRE North America Methodology & Processing Steps Data sets need to be prepared with same projection, pixel counts, extents and snapped to the same raster. This guide shows you how to do it.
LANDFIRE Training is offered through NIFTT.
The Landscape Conservation Forecasting Process: Six Primary Components or Steps Primer to get you started on the process.
Modeling Adaptation Manual offers a step-by-step guidebook that will help you improve and enhance your vegetation models, including adding management activities and invasive species.
State-and-Transition Modeling in LANDFIRE. LANDFIRE staff presented at the first ever State-and-Transition Modeling Conference in Portland, OR. Jim Smith discussed the role of state-and-transition models in LANDFIRE past, present and future. Kori Blankenship reflected on lessons learned from the LANDFIRE modeling effort and what it takes to build thousands of ecological models in just a few years with experts. VIDEO
