AbstractFisheries management in California is a complex, resource intensive process that is limited by funding and staff capacity. In this report, Conservancy scientists and colleagues identify ways in which non-governmental organizations and individuals, including fishermen, can engage in aspects of management. The report suggests that additional capacity from outside the government can improve conservation and management outcomes by improving the flow of information, achieving more responsive decision-making, and securing buy-in from multiple groups for effective measures.
